FAQs during Distance Learning

How can I be prepared to learn? 
Be well rested and have a good breakfast. Prepare a work area conducive to learning with no distractions. Have all materials (paper, pencils, etc.) ready and your Chromebook charged. Dress for school. Log in and check Google Classroom and your email every day, and check Google Classroom every period for your teacher’s announcements.
 
What will my classes look like? 
Each period is 80 minutes long. All assignments will be posted in Google Classroom. Students should log into Google Classroom every day to check for class announcements and assignments. Students must log in to the live session at the start of every period and remain online during the live session. Zoom or Google Meet address is available in Google Classroom. Students who are late for the live session will be marked tardy. Students with more than four tardies in any one class will be assigned detentions. Students who leave the session early or do not attend the live session will be marked absent. The attendance policy is in effect. The live session may include direct instruction, synchronous video/audio with discussion, teacher-student/student-student interaction, application of knowledge and skills, structured group activities, and response to questions. Students must enable/disable their camera or microphone as requested by the teacher. Grades will be based on the successful completion of assignments and on teacher criteria derived from State standards and frameworks. Students are expected to complete all work assigned by the teacher with the expectation that the work will count towards their grade in the assigned course. Work shall include but is not limited to assignments, homework, tests, assessments, projects, and other tasks actively assigned by the teach.
 
What am I expected to do in a live session? 
Participate and respond respectfully to your teacher and other students. Be mindful that your teacher may record the audio version of the lesson. Put your mobile device away- the cell phone policy is in effect. Recording or photographing the sessions is not allowed. Eating or drinking (except water) during the live sessions is not allowed. Keep all pets, siblings not engaging in learning, away from the screen. Promptly comply with any teacher request to mute or unmute your device microphone or remove an item, individual, or pet from your work area.
 
How do I find my live class session? 
Go to Home Access Center for your schedule. Check to see if your class is an A or B day. Log into your Google Classroom every period. 
 
What happens if I am absent or if I miss a live session? 
If you experience technical difficulties, please contact the GHC Technology Help Desk at 818-360-2361 EXT 370 or email as soon as possible. For absences, please complete this .
 
When will 9th Graders receive their student ID cards?
We still are determining how we will distribute the ID cards.

I did not receive a Google Classroom code or invitation from my teacher.
Email the teacher or call the school extension 0. In the first week of school, we have a call center answering all of the questions.

My schedule is not in HAC.
Email the counselor. This is likely a new student who just enrolled and the counselor will assign classes today. 

I did not receive a username or password for HAC.
Call the eSchool staff at extensions 379, 351, or 456. 

I only see a sample bell schedule, I do not see a final bell schedule. What is the schedule?
The final bell schedule was sent to students in an email from the counseling staff. The bell schedule is also on the distance learning landing page.
Decisions about athletics will be guided by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Reopening Protocols for K-12 Schools and the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF).

Can sports teams meet/practice during the Full Online Learning period?
While schools remain closed to in-person instruction, they may not be used for athletic programs. Athletes can do conditioning and skill-building activities only on an individual basis or with members of their immediate household, not with cohorts of students from different households (no small groups of students, even if outdoors at school).

Will high school sports teams be allowed to play in 2020/21?

When will tryouts for sports teams begin?
Once we are given clearance to proceed, tryout information will be posted here.
 
Where do I turn in my child's athletic paperwork?
Eligibility information and clearance paperwork may be found here.

Students who have not enrolled and are trying to enroll should email enrollment@ghctk12.comXổ số kiến ​​thiết Tp.. If a resident (living in the pre-charter attendance boundary) is trying to enroll, please go to the website and navigate to 'Enrollment' using the top navigation bar drop-down menu for more information.

If the student is enrolled and has not registered, the parent should look through their email and spam folder for an email from donotreply@powerschool.com. If the parent cannot find it, then they need to contact registration@ghctk12.com.

Students who need to withdraw from Granada need to have a parent send an email to attendance@ghctk12.comXổ số kiến ​​thiết Tp., and also provide their new school of attendance and return their Chromebook.

How do you participate in a club online?
All clubs are expected to meet online and submit thorough meeting minutes after every session, per their approved schedule. Meetings will be held online through Zoom and/or Google Meet. A list of approved clubs and access to meeting codes can be found here. 
How much do boxes cost?
Box prices are designated by grade: 
Grades K-5 = $30
Grades 6-8 = $32.50
Grades 9-12 = $36.55
 
I work on our assigned box pick-up day. May I pick up a box on an alternate day?
Yes, you may pick up the box on an alternate day.
How does P-EBT work for students attending schools that are providing meals through a Provision such as Community Eligibility Provision or Provision 2?
For the purposes of P-EBT, all students who attend a Provision school are considered eligible for free and reduced-price school meals. If a student is directly certified, they do not need to apply for P-EBT and will automatically receive a P-EBT card in the mail. If a student is not directly certified and does not receive a P-EBT card in the mail by about May 22, their parent or legal guardian can apply for P-EBT online. Will younger siblings of students attending a Provision school be eligible for P-EBT?
Only school-aged children who attend a school that participates in the NSLP or SBP are eligible for P-EBT benefits.
 
Can school districts continue to process applications for free or reduced-price school meals?
Yes. If a family’s socio-economic status has changed, they may apply for free or reduced-price school meals. If determined eligible, the family may also apply for P-EBT.
 
If an eligible family completes a paper or online application on or after March 16 (the average date of school closures statewide used for P-EBT purposes), are their children eligible for P-EBT?
Yes. If a family submits a school meal application on or after March 16 and they are determined eligible, this family can apply for and receive P-EBT benefits for their school-aged children.
 
If a student is determined eligible to receive free or reduced-price school meals through direct certification on or after March 16, is the student eligible for P-EBT?
Yes. If a student is directly certified for free or reduced-price meals on or after March 16, this student will automatically receive P-EBT benefits. The date the P-EBT card arrives in the mail and the amount of P-EBT benefit issued depends on the date the student is directly certified.
 
How will P-EBT benefits be calculated for a student that was determined eligible for free or reduced-price school meals based on an application at the start of the school year, but was then recently (e.g. on or after March 16) directly certified for free or reduced-price school meals?
In this scenario, the P-EBT eligible family should submit a P-EBT application online. The family will receive the full P-EBT benefit amount of $365 per child.
 
If a family has a toddler and receives CalFresh, is the toddler eligible for P-EBT?
P-EBT eligibility is based on an individual student’s eligibility for free or reduced-price school meals offered through the SBP or NSLP. Only those children eligible for free or reduced-price school meals and attending a school that participates in the SBP or NSLP are eligible for P-EBT.
 
Are children who attend kindergarten or preschool eligible for P-EBT?
P-EBT eligibility is based on an individual student’s eligibility for free or reduced-price school meals offered through the SBP or NSLP. Only those children eligible for free or reduced-price school meals and attending a school that participates in the SBP or NSLP are eligible for P-EBT.
 
Are children participating in the Child and Adult Care Food Program eligible for P-EBT?
No. P-EBT eligibility is based on an individual student’s eligibility for free or reduced-price school meals offered through the SBP or NSLP. Only those children eligible for free or reduced-price school meals and attending a school that participates in the SBP or NSLP are eligible for P-EBT.
 
Do school districts need to take any action to determine P-EBT eligibility, such as confirming families were eligible for free or reduced-price school meals during the school year?
No. School districts are not required to verify eligibility for free or reduced-price school meals.  School districts are asked to assist with outreach to eligible families to ensure that P-EBT benefits reach needy families in their communities.If a family submits a FRPM application, districts should continue to accept and process applications and update student eligibility information in CALPADS to ensure that eligible children receive P-EBT benefits.
 
Are students who are experiencing homelessness and receiving free or reduced-price school meals through the McKinney-Vento act eligible for P-EBT?
Yes, these students are directly certified for free school meals and are eligible for P-EBT.  If a student is directly certified they do not need to apply for P-EBT and will automatically receive a P-EBT card in the mail by about May 22.

When will textbooks be distributed to students? 
Textbooks and instructional materials will be distributed to students beginning the week of August 24. Due to current health guidelines, we are using a drive through/contactless distribution process, and the number of students who can be served each day is limited. A detailed schedule will be emailed to students and families. In the meantime, teachers have migrated many of their existing materials online and are also using newly developed online materials.
